Former Physician Charged with Assault Allegations Involving Thirty-Eight Patients

Prosecutors have stated that a ex- doctor has been charged with committing assaults against 38 victims who were under his care.

The Serious Charges

The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of numerous sexual offences – some of which involve some against minors under the age of thirteen – spanning the period from 2017 to 2021.

One deputy chief CPS official stated, “Legal teams have diligently worked to support a thorough and intricate police inquiry, carefully reviewing the evidence to determine that there is a strong case to proceed to trial and that it is in the public interest.”

Scope of the Police Inquiry

These allegations come after what police called a “detailed inquiry” into alleged assaults at medical facilities: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.

The defendant is scheduled to appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on 20 January.

Breakdown of Charges

Prosecutors said the 45 sexual offences he is charged with:

  • Fifteen counts of assault.
  • Seventeen counts of assault by penetration.
  • 9 counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
  • 3 counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
  • 1 count of attempted penetrative assault.
