Her Royal Highness's Traditional Christmas Musical Celebration Spotlights Community Volunteers

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her yearly festive musical service at the historic Abbey, with attendees featuring royals, celebrities and local heroes who have supported their local areas.

The sizable congregation will enjoy a blend of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from stars like Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

A Theme of Love and Generosity

The theme of the concert, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

In the audience are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose daughter died of a brain tumour, and who established a foundation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a child with a terminal illness.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often discreetly and without words, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an remarkable change to the lives of others," the Princess expressed in a note prior to the carol service.

A Gradual Return

The princess has been making her own gradual return to public life following her health challenges and treatment, recently giving her first public speech for two years, in which she talked about recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".

Performance and Potential

Those coming to the Abbey can listen to young musicians supported by the Future Talent organisation, co-founded by the late Duchess of Kent to widen access to musical tuition.

An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who is a trumpet player and is from southwest Wales, has been assisted by the organisation, with awards contributing to musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "amazing" to be taking part in tonight's service.

"Pursuing music is often costly," Carys said. She is now studying at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to hone their artistic talents.

Generations Gathering

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who plays the euphonium, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many important people," she said.

Among the guests will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will include nine-year-old Saphia Turner, recipient of a prize for youthful altruism, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to generate funds for community pantries.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been festooned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

Taking to the stage will be recording artist Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a nautical singing ensemble, Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "the perfect culmination."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be broadcast on a major network on Christmas Eve.
