Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Manama, as the country executed missile attacks across the region in retaliation for a "massive" and ongoing attack against it by the US and Israel.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity close to the command center of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The extent of any destruction is unclear and the American officials has yet to issue a statement.

Regional Interceptions

In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house US military bases - said they have shot down missiles in their airspace.

In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry said it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the region.

IRGC Statement

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard declared it was striking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on the Islamic Republic launched by the US and Israel on Saturday.

That initial attack - initiated at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on areas associated with the the regime, with President Trump calling on the people of Iran to rise up against the regime.

Wider Impacts

In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates stated that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses engaged the missiles with great effectiveness and destroyed a series of missiles," the statement continued.

It said missile fragments fell on a neighborhood in the capital, resulting in some property damage and fatalities.

The United States Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
