Shock as Popular South African DJ Killed in Johannesburg.
A renowned South African media personality and entertainer has been shot dead in the country's largest city Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a country struggling with persistent crime.
Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the city centre on Tuesday afternoon.
Officials stated the forty-year-old entertainer was accosted by three individuals, one of whom shot at him before fleeing on foot.
The motive of the attack has not been established and no suspects have been apprehended are in custody, as per the official statement.
Details of the Attack
Police revealed that Stock was attacked as he was departing from a premises near the city center landmark.
He had spent several hours at the site overseeing the implementation of safety equipment, which had been illegally inhabited by squatters, as per local media.
"The report indicates the man was confronted by three unidentified men after he parked his car, and they began shooting at him before escaping on foot," authorities stated.
Surveillance tape reportedly captured a man with dreadlocks and wearing what resembled a protective services outfit firing shots on Stock before running away.
The DJ tried to run away after he was wounded but fell down a short distance away.
Officials noted that Stock had an unused firearm and no items were stolen during the attack.
Important clues, like spent shells, were found at the crime scene.
Appeal for Witnesses
Officials are asking members of the public who may have witnessed the attack to contact them.
"Our information indicates they walked a long distance after the attack, and police have been following their trail to find their location," remarked an authority figure.
Outpouring of Grief
His family member, a close relative, said the family was struggling to come to terms with the loss.
"Words fail me. I don't have words," she said.
"It is clear he was a champion for numerous individuals. He spoke out bravely about subjects not many people were ready to tackle. This is a profound tragedy."
She appealed to the citizens to avoid sharing disturbing footage from the scene, saying this was an extremely painful time, above all for Stock's three sons.
A Multifaceted Career
Stock was the host of Ngicel' iVisa, a series that was broadcast on a popular local TV network.
Apart from his role as a presenter, Stock was active in various business ventures, including protective services, providing elite guarding services and securing major functions across South Africa.
He was also understood to participate in building administration and was involved in tenant removals.

His murder has shocked the country and triggered an outpouring of tributes from his fans, the authorities and various organizations.
A government minister said he was outraged and heartbroken by Stock's murder.
"He spoke his truth fearlessly and impartially. He even spoke up against me and my actions as a public official. He was a pure example of who we must aspire to be," he stated.
A public representative commented the "shocking killing of DJ Warras in the middle of the day is a trauma for all South Africans".
A broadcasting director expressed that "DJ Warras was more than just a face of a reality series. He was a gifted communicator, a dedicated enthusiast of music and a kind-hearted individual who brought happiness and vitality to every performance. His artistic passion left an lasting impression."
In a statement, the broadcaster he worked for affirmed Stock was known for his magnetism, approachability and sharp wit, adding that his memory "will be remembered".
