It has been 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story film debuted, establishing the animation giant as a major animation studio and introducing viewers to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a brief look into the storyline but leaving fans curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys

The preview shows the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a latest toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser avoids is what the sheriff is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a carnival and assisting giveaway items find good homes.

Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. The clip displays the insignia pinned to her outfit.

Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the group.
