The second-hand marketplace Members Voice Anger Over Size Updates
Vinted users have been reacting angrily after an update resulted in items being listed as the wrong size.
The second-hand shopping app has altered its sizing categories for women's and children's clothes without notifying every member regarding the update.
Digital Channels Backlash
Many shoppers and sellers are expressing on platforms stating that platform listings now display a modified sizing category than originally posted because of the remapping.
Vinted explained the revised method more closely matches comparable marketplaces.
The platform has recommended to check their listings and adjust the sizing manually where appropriate, which has left users frustrated.
Sizing System Changes
Earlier, the sizing featured numerical and alphabetical indicators, such as S/8 or M/10.
The revised method features an alphabetical indicator and numerical range such as S/UK 8-10.
In some cases, the sizing has been recategorised - for example a size L was previously a 12 but is now a UK 16-18.
Shopper Stories
Frankie Bridger, who produces content about larger sizing, explained the modification "makes transactions more difficult".
"Few clothing companies classify XL as 20-22," as the platform currently indicates.
Another user, from Glasgow, said garments she listed on Vinted with size 14 labels were appearing on the platform as measurements 20-22.
"Should someone sized 20-22 purchase these they're going to be very disappointed," she said.
Required Changes
Charlotte Lunn, based in Derby, said she had been left angered because the modification necessitated personal updates the sizes on "every single listing".
"This situation is especially annoying, since I have chronic health issues and selling on Vinted has been paramount for me since losing part of my income," she explained.
Platform Context
The platform boasts over 100 million users, comprising 18 million UK members.
It has proved a popular alternative versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This represents another occasion when a surprising modification on the platform has faced criticism: previously, Vinted reversed a change to its shipping options after backlash from users.
